Austin Kuhn tries scoring off a corner kick
The Revolution started their play-off run with a quarterfinal showdown
against West Mont. It was an early morning game in very cold temperatures.
The players from both teams were sluggish resulting in a half-time score of
0-0. The second half started out the same until the midway point when Kirby
Sibiski scored a "cracker" of a goal from a free kick from 20 yards out.
The goal seemed to spurn on the Revs as they began to dominate play. With
approximately 5 minutes left, the Revs were awarded a much deserved penalty
kick. Kirby expertly finished the pk giving the team an insurance goal and
the 2-0 victory.
In the semi-finals, the boys next opponents were the Swarthmore Dragons.
Again, the boys started out slow and Swarthmore took advantage by scoring
midway through the first half for the 1-0 half-time lead. After an
inspirational speech and some tactical changes by head coach Dale Witmer at
half-time, the boys looked like a new team in the second half. Some great
midfield play by Kirby Sibiski and Hunter Renninger led to an excellent
finish by Austin Kuhn to tie the game at 1-1. Minutes later, Greg
Whitehosue scored what turned out to be the winning goal. There was a
scramble in the box in which Greg pounced and blasted through a crowd of
players to give the Revs the 2-1 lead. Kirby added an insurance goal on one
of his trademark free kicks. The Revs were off to the final after the 3-1
win.
The final pitted FC Revolution against Methacton. The Revs saved their best
game of the year for the final. In what can only be described as
"absolutely sensational play" by the entire team, the Revs went on to a 4-0
victory to claim the Delco championship. It was an awesome team display
from the goalkeeper Ryan Krall to the defense composed of Johnny Masano,
Matt Prince, Andrew White, Sam Blanchet to a midfield comprised of Kirby
Sibiski, Greg Whitehouse, Kevin Kegerise, Hunter Renninger, Mason Albright,
Nate Mayer to the forwards of Austin Kuhn, Gabe Duran, Alex Fisher. The
goal scorers were Gabe, Austin (2), and Andrew. Gabe scored early which set
the tone for the entire game on a well taken shot from 18 yards out. Austin
scored the second and third goals on some very nice finishing. Andrew
scored the final goal for the Revs on a blast from at least 30 yards from
goal, a truly incredible strike that won't be forgotten anytime soon.
