Meet the Directors and Staff of the 2008 Big Kick / Everton FC Player ID CAMP @ Kutztown University - JUNE 15-19, 2008

Tony "TOSH" Farrell - 2008 Big Kick / Everton FC Player ID CAMP DIRECTOR

Advisor/Partner/Coach/Clinician - Tony "TOSH" Farrell -
Everton FC

Tony Farrell

My coaching career started almost 20 years ago. I began doing what all coaches do when starting out - coaching teams on a voluntary basis.

I worked with players at various skill levels to try and be inventive, understand how players learn and look at what did and didn't work.

I progressed to running an independent centre of excellence for the English FA, a post I held for three years before accepting the offer to coach at Everton's Youth Academy.

Next I was offered a full time role in the club's Community program. I held this position for 2 years before moving departments to take up my current role as technical co-coordinator for 9-12 years.

Now a holder of the UEFA 'A' Licence at both senior and youth level, I'm also a registered coach educator. Over the last few years I've been invited to give coaching demonstrations to various organisations around the world. This includes an in-service day for the Football Association for Academies in the Premier League on the development of young players.

I have seen a number of strong players come through the Everton Academy programme and into the first team. Victor Anichebe, James Vaughan, Mark Hughes and Wayne Rooney have all been excellent examples of the Everton Way.

The most famous graduate of the Everton Academy is current Manchester United and England star forward, Wayne Rooney. Currently Everton boasts 4 young players from their Academy that are part of Everton’s first team. Everton is also the club of Tim Howard, the starting goalkeeper for the United States National Team.

The REVS also hope to foster a coaching exchange program. FC Revolution coaching staff members, along with club coaches who become a partner of the REVS club system will have opportunities to travel to Everton and visit the Everton Academy.

Guiding this partnership has been Everton’s Head of International Football Development, Mr. Tony “Tosh” Farrell, who was introduced to Eric Puls and the FC Revolution by Mike Moyer, owner of GAMEFACE Management, LLC. GAMEFACE is widely recognized as one of the most elite soccer companies in the region. Mr. Farrell conducted a coaching clinic at a local Pennsylvania fields’ complex in early August. His presentation on “The Everton Way” convinced Eric Puls that this could take his club to an elite status. "This is an exciting time, not only for FC Revolution, but also for Everton Football Club,” said Mr. Farrell “This opportunity allows us to put Everton Football Club's proven coaching philosophy - The Everton Way - into place over a sustained period".

"We believe this will help raise the standard of soccer in the Eastern Pennsylvania area and beyond, helping the REVS become one of the leading clubs in player development. The partnership is sure to help maximize player potential and credit must be given to REVS for taking the steps to evolve."

The Revs and Everton Football Club believe this partnership is very unique and one of very few in the country. They hope to add to this agreement by having player exchanges between the players who participate in the REVS’ Club teams, as well as possible exchanges to the Everton Academy in Liverpool. Both boys and girls participate for the REVS’ Club.

Marlon LeBlanc, the 2006 Soccer America National Coach of the Year, enters his second season as the head coach of the West Virginia men’s soccer program looking to continue the success his team enjoyed a year ago.

LeBlanc took over at the helm of the West Virginia on the opening day of preseason camp in 2006 and helped the program reach new heights.

The Mountaineers posted a 15-3-3 record in 2006 with a perfect 9-0-1 record in BIG EAST play, marking the first time a team in the conference went undefeated playing at least a 10-game schedule.

For his efforts LeBlanc and his assistants were named the 2006 BIG EAST coaching staff of the year and NSCAA/adidas Division I Northeast region coach of the year. Under his tutelage WVU spent eight weeks ranked in the top 10 in ’06 and five in the top 5, ranking as high as third.

Also in 2006, LeBlanc help guide senior Nick Noble and Jarrod Smith to All-America selections marking the first time since 1981 in program history.

LeBlanc came to WVU from the Penn State where he played beginning in 1994, before serving as the first assistant from 2001-05. His duties included serving as the recruiting coordinator, assistant director and coordinator for Penn State soccer camps, video analysis and coordination of game day operations and community outreach.

While coaching for Penn State he helped the team to NCAA tournament bids in four out of the last five seasons including round of 16 appearances in 2001 and 2005 and a round of eight appearance in 2002. LeBlanc also guided PSU to Big 10 championships in 2002 and 2005. Penn State ended the 2005 season ranked No. 10 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

In all, LeBlanc helped lead the Penn State to a 62-34-12 record. That includes seven games in 2002 in which he filled in for head coach Barry Gorman to post a 4-3 record in the midst of a Big Ten championship run.

LeBlanc is considered to be among the nation's top collegiate assistants and talented recruiters, earning a nomination for the 2002 AFLAC Assistant Coach of the Year.

In 2004, LeBlanc recruited the 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Two of LeBlanc's recruits that year were named to the Soccer America Freshman All-America team. As recruiting coordinator at Penn State, LeBlanc's classes were ranked #9 and #8 in America in 2001 and 2002 respectively by collegesoccernews.com. The 2002 class was ranked #6 in America by Soccer America.

In 2005, with all players part of LeBlanc’s recruiting classes, Penn State won the Big Ten regular season championship with a perfect 8-0 record. The Nittany Lions also went on to win the Big Ten tournament title that year.

In 2002, LeBlanc took over as the head coach of Penn State for a seven-game stretch as Barry Gorman had to step away for medical reasons. During that stretch, PSU posted a 4-3 record, with a 2-2 record in Big Ten play defeating Ohio State and Northwestern. The team went on later that season to advance to the NCAA tournament’s round of eight, before falling to eventual national champion UCLA.

The East Windsor, N.J., native holds national, advanced national and premier coaching diplomas with a “Distinguished Pass” from the NSCAA. In 2005, LeBlanc served as a clinician at the NSCAA national convention and was invited to be a NSCAA staff instructor in 2006. He is also a member of the Black Soccer Coaches Association of America (BSCAA) and the Black Coaches Association.

A Hightstown High School four-year starter, the New Jersey native received All-State, All-Area, and All-County honors during his scholastic career. In addition to starring for his high school program, LeBlanc was a Region I Olympic Development Program (ODP) standout and a New Jersey ODP team captain. His club side Jersey Shore Boca (NJ) captured the Under 17 New Jersey State Club Championship.

Coach LeBlanc has traveled to England, Brazil, Portugal and most recently the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany to further his coaching education.

LeBlanc graduated from Penn State in 2000 with a B.A. degree in economics. He and his wife Jennifer reside in Morgantown with their one-year-old daughter, Alexandra.

Travis Berger

Head Men's Coach - Alvernia College 2006 PAC Coach of the Year

Travis Berger started his tenure at Alvernia as an assistant coach in 2001 and has been the head coach since the fall of 2002. He took over a program that went 5-12-2 and 2-6 in the PAC in 2001. With an extremely competitive schedule, Berger was able to guide the Crusaders to an 8-11-1 overall record, 3-4-1 in the PAC, during his first season in 2002. He guided the Crusaders to their first ever victory over a nationally ranked opponent by defeating McCallester (#16) 1-0.

In 2003, Berger had his first recruiting class and was able to lead his team to a 7-9-2 overall record, while dramatically improving his PAC record to 4-4. His extremely young team fought hard trying to make their first ever PAC tournament appearance, but they fell short when they lost a dramatic 1-0 game to conference opponent Arcadia.

In 2004, with only his second recruiting class, Berger wanted to challenge his young squad, so his non-conference schedule was filled with nationally and regionally ranked opponents. The young Crusaders met the challenge and posted a record of 8-9-1, 3-5 PAC. Most notably, with one game remaining, the Crusaders were looking to earn their first ever winning season, but Wesley College dashed their hopes with a free kick in the last 10 minutes of play to win 1-0.

Berger guided the 2005 Crusaders to a historic season. The Maroon and Gold earned the first conference winning record (6-3) in program history and they secured a spot in the conference semi-finals for the first time in program history. Berger lead his young squad, with six freshmen starters and no seniors, into the PAC semifinals versus the # 9 team in the Nation, Eastern University, and took a 1-1 tie to PK’s, eventually succumbing 3-1 in the PK shootout.

Berger coached for three years for E.P.Y.S.A. of the Olympic Development Program. He was able to help guide the U-15 Boys program to the National Final Four in Las Vegas in 2004. He is a sought after clinician who prides himself on ensuring that local youth master the fundamentals and basics of the game of soccer.

As a player, Berger played professionally for the Reading Rage for one season. He played collegiate soccer for Penn State University, helping the Lions to the Big Ten Championship his freshman year, 1993. He went on to earn Big Ten 1st team honors, Academic All-American status, lead the Big Ten in goal scoring his junior year (15 goals), and was honored to earn the title as team captain his senior year. Berger was an All-American at Wilson High School, leading his team to the State Championship his senior year. Berger was elected into the Wilson Hall of Fame in 2003, the first year he was eligible.
