AUGUST NEWSLETTER

Gamefacefcrev_logo_small

Hello FC Revolution Family:

Welcome to an exciting time for all players, coaches and families!  We'd like to wish good luck to all high school soccer players as they begin the 2008 campaign.  The boys high school poll on our homepage has certainly sparked some interest and controversy, with over 1000 registered votes!  Also, please check the TEAM PAGES...as new team nicknames have been posted.

FC Revolution is constantly changing.  We are adapting new ideas and strategies to match the top clubs around the country.  We don't compare ourselves to any local clubs...we need to mirror what the best teams and clubs in the United States and abroad are doing.

With that being said, several of the changes need to be addressed so everyone is clear about things.  The following issues and/or questions have been raised:
  • COACHES:  Since the tournament season has started, there will be scheduling conflicts with the coaching staff.  The club directors will determine the coaching schedule for all tournaments, so all questions should be directed to Eric or Mike.  The following statement is posted on the FC web site:  Each team is assigned a head coach.  However, please note that several of our coaching staff members are responsible for multiple teams.   How does that work?  We "coach by committee."  That means your child will have the benefit of learning from all of our highly skilled coaches.  Although there will be a primary coach assigned, and responsible for your child's team, other FC coaches will be present at tournaments and league games from time to time. However, they will not be new faces to the players.  Not only does this benefit your child for style and personality reasons, but it also allows for increased development and training.  Every coach has special and different strengths and talents.  "Coaching by committee" allows players to benefit from the knowledge and skills of all of our coaches.
  • GUEST PLAYERS:  Guest player appearances will be constant through the entire club season.  Talented players within the club will "play up or down" on teams within the club as directed by the club owners.  Also, trials for new players wishing to join the club will occur at any time.
  • GOALKEEPER COACH:  We'd like to welcome ERIK BURSTEIN as our new Goalkeeper Coach.  Erik is the current Head Women's Coach at Kutztown University.  Erik is the most qualified Goalkeeper Coach in the area, and we are honored to have him on our talented staff.  Erik has an extensive playing and coaching background.  The Fall Goalkeeper Training Schedule will be available soon!  Please check his bio:

Erik Burstein - NEW Goalkeeper Coach for the Club!

Kutztown University Head Women's Soccer Coach - ERIK BURSTEIN, has been named the new Goalkeeper Coach for FC REVOLUTION.  "Erik Burstein is the most qualified Goalkeeper Trainer in the area, and we are honored to have him as part of our staff," said Club Founder Eric Puls.

Mike Moyer added, "Erik Burstein is an incredible coach with an unmatched passion for the sport and the position.  He is extremely well connected to college programs around the country, and these connections will benefit all of our players over the upcoming years.  Our goalkeepers will be trained at the highest possible level."

Erik Burstein will enter his second season as head coach of women’s soccer at Kutztown University in fall 2008.

Burstein led the women’s soccer program to its sixth straight double-digit win seasons with a 10-6-3 2007 campaign. The Golden Bears were 5-5-2 in the PSAC East and defeated two top-15 teams. Prior to 2007, KU had made four straight appearances in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Playoffs and was the PSAC runner-up in 2004 and 2005.

Burstein came to Kutztown from Bowling Green State University, where he served as an assistant coach during the 2006 season. An accomplished soccer player, he brings 10 years of coaching experience with him to Kutztown.

While with the Bowling Green Falcons, he worked primarily with the defenders and goalkeepers, which produced the team’s best defensive record in the program’s 10-year history in 2006. The team allowed the fewest goals, produced the most shutouts and had the league’s leading goalkeeper in goals-against average.

Prior to BGSU, Burstein was the head coach at Division III Rutgers University-Newark. Over three seasons, he guided the Scarlet Raiders to a 23-29-2 record. His team was 8-10 in 2003, then the school’s record for wins. The next year, Burstein led the squad to the first winning season in program history, finishing 10-7-1. Prior to taking over as head coach, Burstein served the 2002 season as assistant coach at Rutgers-Newark.

Burstein began his coaching career in 1997, when he coached the Greater Akron (OH) Premier and West Akron Soccer Club under-14 boys teams. He was also an assistant coach at Median Highland High School. He has spent time as director of coaching/player development with the Lakehurst-Manchester Soccer Association (2000-02) and on the coaching staff with the New Jersey Olympic Development Program (2002-06).

From 2003-04, Burstein was an assistant coach with the Jersey Shore Boca F.C. of the United Soccer League: Premier Development League.

An accomplished goalkeeper in his own right, Burstein was a two-time all-conference, all-county and all-state first-team selection at his alma mater, Toms River East (NJ) High School. He was a Mid-Atlantic All-America selection as a senior in 1994.

He has also played professionally, both domestically and internationally. He was a member of the Brooklyn Italians Professional Soccer team in 1991, then played for the Leyton Orient F.C. (English 3rd Division) from 1992-94. He played for the New Jersey Youth Soccer State Cup Champion Jersey Shore Boca F.C. in 1992 and 1994, and earned a spot on the Olympic Development Program at both the state (New Jersey) and regional (Region I) levels from 1990-94.

He currently holds a USSF National "B" license. He also holds USSF National Goalkeeping and Youth licenses, as well as NSCAA Goalkeeping Level III National and Youth diplomas.

He is a 2002 graduate of Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, with a degree in communications.

FC Revolution Coach Inducted into Hall of Fame

04/08/08
By Touchline News

BERKS COUNTY, PA --  FC Revolution co-owner and coach Mike Moyer was honored Sunday with his induction into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.  Moyer was presented the prestigious honor by the Berks Chapter of the PSHF for his outstanding past and present contributions to the game of soccer.  Moyer is a graduate of Fleetwood High school and West Chester University and was an athlete who played at both the high school and collegiate levels.  As a four year varsity team member and Co-Captain at West Chester, he was a member of the team that won the 1977 Division One East Coast Conference championship.

Moyer, who was awarded the USSF "A" National coaching license in 1987, has served as a coaching instructor and has held a number of coveted coaching positions. In addition to assisting the East Men's and Women's teams at two US Olympic festivals, his remarkable history includes coaching at almost every youth, collegiate and professional level and includes coaching positions at both West Chester and Alvernia College. Professionally, he assisted the Philadelphia Freedom and served two years as the head coach for the Reading Rage, where Moyer brought them the first and only divisional championship in the team's 12 year history.  Moyer, who worked for 17 years as a health and physical education teacher in the public school system, is known as a tireless advocate working to raise media awareness to soccer's immense popularity in the US and as a leader in raising the level of soccer play among youth players in the United States.

In 2007, Moyer was instrumental in forming a three year teaching agreement, one of the first of its kind in the US,  between the  Everton Soccer Club in Liverpool, England and the FC Revolution soccer club in Berks County, Pennsylvania.  Everton, one of world's most historic soccer clubs and one of the top teams in the English Premiership has been called home by some of the world's greatest players such as current Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney.

Relatively young and fast moving, FC Revolution, founded by co-owner Eric Puls in 2003, has already established itself among the top soccer clubs in Eastern Pennsylvania. Fielding boys and girls teams from U8 to U18, the club has become well known for its innovative programs and instruction, excellent team performance, individual player development, and an outstanding staff of coaches.

Reading, Pennsylvania – September 10, 2007 – FC Revolution Soccer Club, from Reading, Pennsylvania, announced a partnership agreement today with English Premier League Club, Everton Football Club. The partnership launches - for the first time ever - a training academy for Eastern Pennsylvania players based on the highly successful Everton Academy training program.

FC Revolution Owner/Director, Eric Puls said: “This is a historic day for soccer players and coaches throughout the Eastern Pennsylvania region. They will have exclusive training that utilizes the program and methods of one of the world’s leading organizations for player development.” Everton Football Club will be associated with the FC Revolution club teams, the Winter Academy, and all other components of the club, including camps and clinics. Everton will assist FC Revolution in the development of an Academy/Club curriculum, as well as provide their expertise and technical advice.

In exchange, the REVS agree to promote “The Everton Way” to all players and coaches in the club. " Evertonway.com " is an on-line football development tool based on the methods used by Everton’s Academy coaches. The web site provides hundreds of video clips to reveal practices, drills and the entire philosophy used by Everton’s Academy.

The Everton Academy has been enormously successful in producing top talent to go on and star in the English Premier League. The REVS expect to use these same methods to help develop soccer players in Eastern Pennsylvania and improve the quality of the game.

The most famous graduate of the Everton Academy is current Manchester United and England star forward, Wayne Rooney. Currently Everton boasts 4 young players from their Academy that are part of Everton’s first team. Everton is also the club of Tim Howard, the starting goalkeeper for the United States National Team.

The REVS also hope to foster a coaching exchange program. FC Revolution coaching staff members, along with club coaches who become a partner of the REVS club system will have opportunities to travel to Everton and visit the Everton Academy.

Guiding this partnership has been Everton’s Head of International Football Development, Mr. Tony “Tosh” Farrell, who was introduced to Eric Puls and the FC Revolution by Mike Moyer, owner of GAMEFACE Management, LLC. GAMEFACE is widely recognized as one of the most elite soccer companies in the region. Mr. Farrell conducted a coaching clinic at a local Pennsylvania fields’ complex in early August. His presentation on “The Everton Way” convinced Eric Puls that this could take his club to an elite status. "This is an exciting time, not only for FC Revolution, but also for Everton Football Club,” said Mr. Farrell “This opportunity allows us to put Everton Football Club's proven coaching philosophy - The Everton Way - into place over a sustained period".

"We believe this will help raise the standard of soccer in the Eastern Pennsylvania area and beyond, helping the REVS become one of the leading clubs in player development. The partnership is sure to help maximize player potential and credit must be given to REVS for taking the steps to evolve."

The Revs and Everton Football Club believe this partnership is very unique and one of very few in the country. They hope to add to this agreement by having player exchanges between the players who participate in the REVS’ Club teams, as well as possible exchanges to the Everton Academy in Liverpool. Both boys and girls participate for the REVS’ Club.
